Wolves sign Belgian midfielder Leander Dendoncker on loan from Anderlecht

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the signing of midfielder Leander Dendoncker from Anderlecht on an initial season-long loan.

The 23-year-old played 42 times for the Belgian side last season and was part of the national team which finished third in the World Cup in Russia.

Despite the deal being initially for a loan, it involves an obligatory option to buy at the end of the season, and sees Dendoncker join on the club for the next four seasons, according to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur.

Dendoncker’s move comes after the Belgian had been linked with joining Wolves’ fellow Premier League side Manchester United.

Last summer, the Belgian was reportedly subject to interest from the Red Devils and speaking in October 2017, Dendoncker confirmed he would have liked to join United.

“If it was as concrete as was being said, if they wanted me at all costs, I’d already be there,” he said at the time.

“When you play for Anderlecht and you have the chance to go there, you don’t hesitate, but Anderlecht had their bit to say. Everyone had to agree.

“For a club to pay what they were asking for, the club needed to be concretely interested.

“If Anderlecht asked for a lot of money, it’s because they knew it would be difficult, and, at that time of the year, the price was over exaggerated.”

But no deal did come in January either, and now the midfielder is Wolves’ 11th signing of the transfer window joining the likes of Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Adama Traore at the newly-promoted Premier League side.

Wolves and Dendoncker kick off their Premier League season against Everton on Saturday.

Wolves fans react to their latest summer signing

Wolves have had a busy summer in adding to their ranks, as they look to stay in the Premier League longer than one season. And fans of the club were excited to see Dendoncker added to the long list of signings.
