Reports linking Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo with a move to Juventus have been laughed off by the Italian club’s former managing director.
Following Real Madrid’s win over Liverpool in the Champions League final, the Portuguese star added doubts to his future.
“It was very nice to be at Real Madrid,” he said on BeIn Sports after the 3-1 win. “In the coming days I will give a response to the fans, who have always been at my side.”
As a result, Ronaldo has been constantly linked with a move away from Madrid with Juventus, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain all touted as possible destinations.
But former Juventus managing director Luciano Moggi believes the Serie A champions should not look to sign Ronaldo and focus on other areas of their squad.
“It makes me laugh,” he told Sportitalia (via Goal).
“Juve’s problem is not Ronaldo, it’s putting together the defence and the midfield.
“For me they would be wrong to get Cristiano with a €30 million salary.
“Everyone should remember that I had a deal to buy him as a kid, Ronaldo, but [Marcelo] Salas said no, so it didn’t happen.”
Last season, Juventus won Serie A for the seventh consecutive season, as they finished top of the league ahead of Napoli who had pushed them close.
Meanwhile for Ronaldo, the Champions League was added to the Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup but Real faltered in domestic competitions.
Ronaldo also saw his Portugal side knocked out of the World Cup in the Round of 16 as they lost to Uruguay 2-1.
Time to move on for Ronaldo?
Signing for Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009, for a then-world record fee of £80m, Ronaldo has enjoyed a fantastic spell in Spain so far.
In his nine-year stint, the Portuguese forward refined his game to become one of world football’s most devastating goalscorers, netting 450 times in 438 appearances across all competitions while also recording 131 assists.
Ronaldo has won two La Liga titles and the Copa del Rey twice, but his standing achievement will be leading the club to four Champions League victories including three in a row between 2016 and 2018.
