Cristiano Ronaldo: Swapping Real Madrid for Juventus was easy

Cristiano Ronaldo says switching to Juventus from Real Madrid was an easy decision.

Ronaldo, 33, moved to the Serie A giants after spending nine years with Los Blancos, where he rose to the top of world football, winning four Balon d’Ors while at the club.

Ronaldo says there was no precise moment when he decided to leave, but he had a feeling that he would be welcomed by Juve’s fans.

“I don’t have a precise moment when I decided. During the years, we played a few times against Juve and I had a special feeling that the Italian supporters like Cristiano,” Ronaldo told Juventus TV.

“It’s the biggest club in Italy, one of the best in the world, so it was an easy decision, as Juve are an unbelievable club.”

The appreciation the fans had for the Portuguese superstar would have been confirmed in last season’s Champions League when scores of the Old Lady’s supporters applauded his spectacular bicycle-kick finish from the stands at the Juventus Stadium.

“Unbelievable. I remember every day, that never happened to me before. In the Champions League against Juve, a quarter-final, you score a goal and see everyone in the stadium applaud you.” he added. ” It was an unbelievable feeling.

“I felt surprised at the beginning. I am used to following Juve and I like the club, but since that moment I liked them even more. I won’t say it was the key point in my decision, but every detail helps. Maybe. Of course, it helps when you see the people like you, the supporters and club like you, the feeling is completely different.”

Ronaldo’s Real Madrid legacy

Ronaldo is now 33 years old and most players his age, who play in his position, would be entering the twilight of their careers, but the former Man Utd and Real Madrid star is showing no signs of slowing down. Last season, he scored 26 goals in 27  games in La Liga and hit the back of the net 44 times in 44 games across all competitions.

During his time in Madrid, Ronaldo scored an incredible 450 goals in 438 games, becoming Los Blancos’ all-time leading goalscorer.

It remains to be seen if Ronaldo can replicate the level of form that he reached with Madrid, but his former mentor Sir Alex Ferguson seems to think so. In a 2017 interview with the BBC, Sir Alex claimed that the forward is better than his long-time rival Lionel Messi and, unlike Messi, is capable of playing for any team in the world.

Ronaldo and Juventus will host Chievo on August 18 in their opening game of the 2018-19 Serie A season.
