Eight deals outside the Premier League you might have missed on deadline day

The Premier League’s decision for their clubs to shut up shop on August 9, which rankled a few, meant an uncharacteristically quiet deadline day.

There wasn’t that humongous transfer from nowhere; there was a couple of loan deals and concluding sagas. Everton and Fulham proved to be the most active, however, no fewer than 222 transfers were registered worldwide on August 9 with plenty of them involving European clubs.

Here are just eight you might have missed.

1. Jordi Amat

From: Swansea City

To: Rayo Vallecano

Fee: £900k

It never really got going for Amat at Swansea despite being there for four seasons. The centre-back never managed more than 17 league appearances in a single season and would go on loan to Real Betis for the duration of 2017/18. A graduate of Espanyol’s academy, the Spaniard leaves south Wales on a permanent basis, though he remains in La Liga by joining Rayo Vallecano.

2. Gary Gardner

From: Aston Villa

To: Birmingham

Fee: Loan

It takes a brave soul to move between arch-rivals Aston Villa and Birmingham City, which is what Gary Gardner has done. He’s not the first and is unlikely to be the last. His decision merely comes down to regular playing time. Something Steve Bruce cannot guarantee him at this time, hence the move to link up, on a season-long loan, with Garry Monk, as well as his brother, Craig.

3. Fedor Smolov

From: Krasnodar

To: Lokomotiv Moscow

Fee: £8.1m

Smolov was heavily linked with West Ham before this summer’s World Cup. In fact the Russian marksman was keen on a Premier League move, but nothing came to fruition, though he has moved on from Krasnodar but remains in Russia by joining champions Lokomotiv Moscow.

4. Hyun-jun Suk

From: Troyes

To: Reims

Fee: £2.7m

Another club for the much-travelled Korean striker. Suk began at Ajax before representing no fewer than nine clubs across six different countries. Reims, who secured promotion to Ligue 1 last season, is his tenth team.

5. Henk Veerman

From: Heerenveen

To: FC St. Pauli

Fee: £450k

Dutch strikers moving to Germany has been a growing trend in recent years. Henk Veerman, who had a modest career in the Eredivisie with Heerenveen, is the latest to make the short trip by joining everyone’s favourite hipster club FC St. Pauli.

6. Josh Windass

From: Rangers

To: Wigan

Fee: Undisclosed

There’s no place for Josh Windass in Steven Gerrard’s revolution at Rangers. The 24-year-old, who previously turned out for Accrington Stanley, moves to newly promoted Wigan.

7. Nikola Vukcevic

From: Braga

To: Levante

Fee: £8m

Nikola Vukcevic ends a five-year association with Portuguese outfit Braga, whom he joined from boyhood club Budućnost Podgorica, by joining La Liga outfit Levante.

8. Adrián Marín

From: Villarreal

To: Alavés

Fee: Undisclosed

Made in Villarreal, the 21-year-old left-back leaves his boyhood club after a nine-year association. Marín, who has one Spanish U21 cap to his name, joins league rivals Alavés.
