Chelsea pair Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud have admitted that they have tried to convince Lyon forward Nabil Fekir.
The French attacker has attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs after some impressive performances for the Ligue 1 side.
Fellow Premier League side Liverpool came close to securing the signature of long-time target Fekir, only for the deal to fall through after his medical.
Now, with Chelsea looking to add some attacking talent to their squad before the end of the transfer window this Thursday at 5pm, Fekir may appear to be a perfect option for the west London club.
At least to France international teammate Giroud, who has revealed that he has tried to convince the forward to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
“I spoke to him when we were with the France team and his transfer to Liverpool was aborted,” Giroud told reporters, according to Goal.
“After that, it was a question about Chelsea. Even Eden had a couple of words with him.
“We’d welcome him, he’s a great player and of course we’d welcome him with pleasure. I don’t know if it’s news but the market finishes on Thursday.”
How does Fekir compare to Hazard?
Last season, Fekir scored an impressive 18 goals in 30 league matches for Lyon as they finished third in Ligue 1, gaining qualification to the Champions League.
If he was to leave the club to join Giroud and Co. at Chelsea, he would be swapping the Champions League for the Europa League but joining some rather talented teammates. Hazard scored 12 goals in 33 league matches whilst providing four assists, compared to Fekir’s six.
Their pass completion rates are almost identical, with Fekir averaging 83% to Hazard’s 84%. Hazard rules the roost on key passes, however, clocking up 73 compared to Fekir’s 46.
Hazard’s productivity in terms of dribbling is also slightly better than Fekir, with the Belgium international averaging a successful take-on rate of 82.47%, whereas Fekir has produced a slightly lower average of 75.47%.
