Man City recall Aro Muric amid goalkeeping crisis

Manchester City have recalled 19-year-old goalkeeper Aro Muric from his season-long loan at NAC Breda following a serious injury to Claudio Bravo

City had intended to leave Muric, who has three caps for the Montenegrin U21 side, in the Eredivisie for the season to pick up some valuable experience but, after just one appearance, he is now back in Manchester.

Bravo has played second fiddle to Ederson between the sticks at the Etihad for the past two seasons but suffered a ruptured Achilles in training earlier this week.

And before the closing of the summer transfer window, City allowed Joe Hart to leave for Burnley, while Angus Gunn departed for Southampton.

That left the inexperienced Daniel Grimshaw as the only other cover to Ederson, forcing Pep Guardiola to recall Muric, who kept a clean sheet in his only appearance for NAC Breda, back from Holland – one of the two will be drafted into the squad to face Wolves on Saturday.

NAC’s technical director, Hans Smulders, is hopeful that this will not affect the club too much and that they are happy to help Manchester City by returning Muric.

He told the club’s official website (via Goal): “Having a partnership also means that you try to help each other in these situations of unforeseeable circumstances.

“We help Manchester City with the return of Aro and of course City Football Group helps us to solve the situation that has arisen in the goal at NAC.

“It is certainly not how we envisaged it, but I am convinced that NAC will ultimately emerge stronger from this situation.”

Meanwhile, 35-year-old Bravo will fly to Barcelona for further tests but is expected to be out of action for several months.

Manchester City have the chance to make it three wins from three in the new Premier League season when they face Wolves at Molineux on Saturday.
