Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino claims that Manchester United never firmed up their interest in defender Toby Alderweireld and has hit back at critics who believe Spurs needed to add to their squad this summer.
United’s well-documented search for a centre-back this summer saw them look at a number of options including Yerry Mina, who completed a move to Everton on deadline day, Harry Maguire, Jerome Boateng and Alderweireld.
The Belgian is said to have been left disappointed by a lack of first-team action in Pochettino’s side last season and many expected him to move elsewhere this summer.
Only one Premier League side has *not* made a single summer signing since the transfer window was introduced in 2003.

But the Spurs boss told reporters in his pre-Newcastle press conference that he’s more than happy to keep Alderweireld at the club and has claimed that the club received no offers for any of their players.
“We didn’t receive (any offer) for any player.
“I don’t like to talk about personal situation. I think it is clear what is going on and how we are going to move in the future. I am happy with all the players at the moment.’

Spurs finished the transfer window having made no new signings, despite their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.
After a 3rd placed finish last season and with the club set to move into their new stadium next month, many fans have expressed their concern as to whether Spurs can progress this season.
Pochettino, though, seems more than happy to carry on working with the players already at his disposal.
“I am happy to keep all the squad together, there were many rumours during the summer about players out.
“It is difficult to understand for people in football that Tottenham didn’t sign or didn’t sell players but sometimes in football, you need to behave different.”
