Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised his new midfielder, Naby Keita, saying there is no telling how good he can become.
Keita, 23, joined Liverpool from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig this summer after agreeing to a transfer last season and has quickly made a positive impression on his new manager.
Keita impressed in pre-season for the Reds and got his competitive life at Anfield off to a strong start in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over West Ham last weekend – the Guinean international completed two dribbles, a joint-high with Roberto Firmino, and completed the full 90 minutes in his debut.
And, speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Klopp was quick to praise his midfielder: “Obviously he learned very quickly already in the last few years, from Austria to Leipzig, now here.
“So he adapts constantly and brings himself to the next level. [He] Adapts to the other players, uses them really well.
“I don’t want to make it too big, it’s just that I don’t know. If you asked me what his greatest strength was, I couldn’t say it really. It’s not because he’s not long enough here. But he’s a very smart footballer.”
Despite the praise, Klopp did also ask for caution when judging Keita due to him only being 23-years-old, adding: “Naby, we all have no clue how good he can be. He’s too young to judge him.”
Keita and the rest of the Liverpool squad have the chance to make it two wins from two so far this season when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park tonight. Although it is the scene of ‘Crystanbul’, where Liverpool threw away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 in the 2013/14 season, the Reds have won away against the Eagles four times since.
