Bayern Munich forward Kingsley Coman has denied he is set to leave the German champions amid reports linking him with Arsenal.
The Frenchman made just 10 starts in the Bundesliga last season and is yet to truly break into Bayern’s first team with the likes of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery ahead of him.
According to reports, Arsenal manager Unai Emery is interested in signing the 22-year-old to boost his squad ahead of his first Premier League campaign.
But, having joined from Juventus in 2015 – initially on a two-year loan move – Coman signed a three-year contract extension in December 2017 and the Frenchman insists he will remain a Bayern player this season.
When asked whether he was sure he’d be playing for Bayern, Coman replied, as reported by Goal: “Normally, yes.
“Normally means normally,” he added when asked to clarify his comments. “I am at Bayern now.
“I extended my contract for five years, so normally I will stay here.
“I had no contact [with] Arsenal.”
As a result of his lack of playing time and an ankle injury, Coman missed out on France’s World Cup success in Russia due to surgery.
But now, the Frenchman is ready to put his troubles behind him and return to the form which could see him compete with Robben and Ribery for a place in Bayern’s starting XI.
He added: “I have more personal ambitions. In other words, I hope to find the level again I had before my injury.
“We are all there to help the team and of course, there are some who will play more than others. But above all, I will focus on me, give everything to find my level again.
“Inevitably, we always want to play as much as possible. Not only this year, but also last year, and the year before.
“After that, there is a coach and the coach will make his decisions. We must accept it but necessarily, we always want to play as much as possible.”
Coman’s career so far
Having made his first-team debut as a senior player for Paris Saint-Germain during the 2012/13 season, Coman has enjoyed a successful career to date, despite being just 22.
