Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu refuses to be drawn on speculation linking the club with Paul Pogba saying there are “20 days left” to conduct transfer business.
The 25-year-old Manchester United midfielder, who became a World Cup winner this summer while representing France in Russia, has recently seen his name mentioned in the same breath as Barça.
Despite the Premier League transfer window shutting on August 9, other European leagues conclude their activity on August 31 meaning there is still a possibility of Pogba leaving. That being said, Bartomeu is not willing to entertain rumours, instead confirming – following the Catalan giants Supercopa de España triumph over Sevilla – they are keeping their ears to the ground.
“I won’t speak of any names, we have respect for all clubs and there are 20 days left,” he told reporters (via Goal).
“We’ll see which players come out. We’re focused on the League, so it’s best to ask [Eric] Abidal, [Ramon] Planes or Pep Segura about players. There’s still time to do business.”
The second coming of Pogba: so far
Pogba returned to United from Juventus, where he lifted four Serie A titles, in the summer of 2016 for a then world record fee of £89m.
To date, across his second stint at Old Trafford, he’s featured in no fewer than 89 matches registering 16 goals and 18 assists so far, including a goal in the 2-1 win over Leicester on Friday – in which he captained the side.
So far he’s collected two major pieces of silverware, the League Cup and Europa League, both coming in his first season under Jose Mourinho.
