Man City’s all-time top-scorer Sergio Aguero is as good as Henry or Shearer, says Martin Keown

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown claims that Sergio Aguero is just as talented as Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.

The Argentine striker has already bagged himself a hat-trick this season during Manchester City’s 6-1 demolition of Huddersfield Town last Sunday.

Aguero was on fire for the Citizens last season, in which he became City’s all-time top goalscorer. Despite missing out on 13 Premier League games, the 30-year-old notched 21 goals in 25 games and assisted six more for his teammates.

His recent performance has been lauded by Keown, who has compared him to some of the best forwards to have ever played in the Premier League.

“He’s got to be up there with the likes of Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer,” Keown told the Mail.

“Aguero embarrasses defenders with that wonderful change of pace. It seems the World Cup disappointment with Argentina has only motivated him even more.

“He looks more determined than ever to keep delivering success for Manchester City.

“Pep Guardiola did not seem satisfied with Aguero when the manager arrived at the Etihad but that has completely changed.

“When you create as many chances as this City side, you need a top-class forward like Aguero to finish them off. He is simply a goal machine.”

Since arriving at the Etihad in 2011 Aguero has scored 204 goals in 295 games across all competitions and has scored 146 goals in the Premier League.

The Argentine still has some catching up to do if he hopes to surpass Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record in the Premier League, which stands at 260.

Aguero would need to score 114 more goals to break the record, however, Shearer only ever played in England and if you compare their career tallies in league competitions then Aguero needs only 41 goals to surpass the former England striker.

Aguero and Manchester City will be back in action on Saturday in the lunch-time kick-off against Wolves.
