Garth Crooks baffled by Alexandre Lacazette’s Arsenal celebration

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette ruined his goal against Everton with an “appalling disco jig”, according to BBC pundit Garth Crooks.

Lacazette opened the scoring against the Toffees in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with a curling effort which beat Jordan Pickford via the right post.

The goal was Lacazette’s second of the season and came just days after television cameras caught him visibly unimpressed as he remained an unused substitute in Arsenal’s 4-2 Europa League win over Ukrainian side Vorskla.

But former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur forward Crooks was left bemused at the way Lacazette decided to mark his effort.

“In the end, one goal was enough to win the game against Everton, and when you score a superb goal like Alexandre Lacazette’s one for Arsenal, you are entitled to celebrate,” he wrote for BBC Sport.

“What I don’t get is the appalling disco jig that follows. Why spoil such a wonderful finish with such a spine-chilling dance?

“What’s wrong with punching the air or running to the crowd?”

The win over Everton moved Arsenal up to sixth in the table after a fourth consecutive league win. The Gunners face Brentford next in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, Unai Emery’s first taste of domestic cup football at the club.

Lacazette’s Arsenal career so far

Joining from Lyon in the summer of 2017, Lacazette enjoyed a good start to life at Arsenal scoring eight goals in his first 15 league games.

But the Frenchman would endure a tough period, scoring just one league goal between December and April, in a time which also saw him pick up a knee injury.

A strong finish, though, brought Lacazette’s final tally for the season to 17 in all competitions including three in the Europa League as the Gunners reached the semi-finals.
