Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze should move to Liverpool to reignite his career, according to former teammate Kevin Großkreutz.
Gotze, 26, was once tipped for greatness as part of a young Borussia Dortmund side but has since seen his progress halted following an unsuccessful move to Bayern Munich and several injury problems.
The German has made just two first-team appearances for Dortmund this season but is yet to play in the Bundesliga, only turning out in the Champions League and DFB-Pokal.
And Großkreutz believes Gotze should look to leave the club in January, looking at a potential reunion with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool
“I’m very sorry for Mario Gotze at the moment, because stuff is written about him – and only him – every day,” he told Sky Deutschland.
“In Brugge, for example, the whole team didn’t play well.
“Maybe it would be good for him to go abroad in the winter to find a bit more peace and bring his career back on track. Klopp knows him quite well, he would be a good fit for Liverpool.”
Having joined Liverpool in 2015, Klopp has turned the Reds into genuine title contenders as his side currently lead the way in the Premier League after six games.
Liverpool have won all six of their league games so far, as well as beating Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League to make it seven wins from seven across all competitions.
Gotze under Klopp
It was under Klopp that Gotze made his first-team debut for Borussia Dortmund, coming on as a late substitute in a goalless draw against Mainz in 2009.
The midfielder would go on to play 116 times under Klopp across all competitions, scoring 31 goals and recording 45 assists.
During that time, the pair won back-to-back Bundesliga titles and the DFB-Pokal once, before Gotze’s departure to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2013.
