Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Erik Lamela has insisted that there is no pressure on England striker Harry Kane to score goals this season.
After winning the Golden Boot this summer at the World Cup in Russia while on England duty for Gareth Southgate’s men, Kane has so far scored three goals in six appearances in the Premier League this season.
He scored a penalty on Saturday away to Brighton and Hove Albion as Spurs left the south coast with all three points following a 2-1 victory, having gone the past five games for club and country without a goal.
Kane’s teammate Lamela has assured the striker that there is no pressure on the England captain to score goals for the club due to the vast attacking quality Mauricio Pochettino’s side possesses.
Speaking to reporters (via the Mirror) Lamela said: “Harry is not a machine. He scores a lot. He always scores. Against Inter he didn’t and for two or three games he didn’t. But he will score again.
“It’s not like Harry needs to score every single game. Against Inter Christian scored, I scored [against Liverpool]. Sonny will score. Lucas will score. All the pressure is not on Harry. All the attacking players need to score. And that’s it.”
So far this season, Spurs have won four league games out of six and have lost two – losing to Liverpool and Watford – and currently, sit in fifth place on 12 points.
Spurs also kicked off their Champions League campaign with a defeat to Inter Milan at the San Siro, losing 2-1.
Their next match is away to Watford in the League Cup on Wednesday.
