Griezmann should stop talking and focus on his football, says Pepe Mel

Former West Bromwich Albion manager Pepe Mel does not agree with Antoine Griezmann‘s claim that he’s on the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and suggests the Frenchman should not be so vocal on the comparisons.

Fresh of the back of his and France’s triumph in Russia, Griezmann is brimming with confidence and even believes he has reached the same level as Messi and Ronaldo in the eyes of the public.

“Am I at the top table with Ronaldo and Messi? Yes, I think I am now perceived in that light,” Griezmann said in an interview with Diario AS (via Football Espana).

Pepe Mel, who was fired last October from Deportivo due to poor results, is not convinced the France international is in the same conversation as the Ballon d’Or winners.

“He thinks he is at the top table of football, but I do not,” Mel told an interview with Radio Marca (via Football Espana) on Wednesday.

“If I was in his position as a player, I would try to just show this on the pitch and not do anymore talking, it could be a distraction.

“He should focus on working hard and nothing else.”

Greizmann scored four goals and nabbed two assists at the World Cup, but his overall performance was overshadowed by Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba who took the tournament by storm in Russia.

Griezmann has scored only once in Atletico Madrid’s first five games in La Liga, they currently sit fifth on the table and their next game is against Huesca in La Liga on Tuesday.
