Spanish side Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Gelson Martins on a free transfer from Sporting CP.
The Portuguese international has signed an astonishing six-year deal with the Spanish side following the cancellation of his contract with Sporting after an incident that saw players and staff assaulted by fans at the club’s training complex.
The 23-year-old winger has played 19 times for the Portuguese national side and becomes the fourth summer signing at the Wanda Metropolitano following the additions of Thomas Lemar from Monaco, Rodri from Villarreal and goalkeeper Antonio Adan from Real Betis.

Atletico are coming of the back of an excellent domestic campaign that saw Los Colchoneros finish second behind champions Barcelona and more importantly, above city rivals Real.
They have added a winger in Gelson who has a wealth of experience despite his young age.
The former Sporting man has made 15 appearances in the Champions League and a further six in the Europa League during his time in Lisbon.
In his 140 appearances with the Lisbon-based side Gelson bagged 27 goals and 30 assists, often touted as the hottest prospect in the Portuguese top flight.
He could make his first appearance for the club when they take on Arsenal tomorrow in the International Champions Cup.
