Man Utd complete signing of Lee Grant from Stoke

Manchester United have completed their third summer signing after recruiting Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant for an undisclosed fee.

Grant, 35, was at the Red Devils’ Carrington training complex on Monday and underwent a medical ahead of his proposed move to Old Trafford.

The former England U21 international has now put pen-to-paper on a two-year contract with United, and joins the club after manager Jose Mourinho let Portugal U-21 international Joel Pereira go out on loan for the season while Sam Johnstone recently completed a move to West Bromwich Albion.

The goalkeeper told ManUtd.com: “Moving to Manchester United has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. This was an opportunity that I couldn’t let pass and I’m thrilled to become a part of such a historic club.

“I’ve enjoyed every moment of my career so far and I’m now ready to continue learning and improving alongside some of the best players in the game. But at the same time, I intend to use my experience to help the team whenever possible.

“I want to say a huge thank you to those close to me who have supported me along my journey so far. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and giving everything possible for the club in the upcoming season.”

Grant has become the club’s third summer signing after Mourinho’s side completed the transfers of 19-year-old right-back Diogo Dalot from Porto, and central midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Meanwhile Grant suffered relegation with the Potters last campaign despite playing second fiddle to Jack Butland; in total the 35-year-old only managed three starts between the sticks for the club last term.

How fans reacted…

Grant was clearly brought in as a back-up option for David De Gea and Sergio Romero, but fans were still baffled with the singing, while some chose to take a more light-hearted view.
