Roma v Spurs pre-season friendly preview: stats, TV channel, live stream & new signings on show

The International Champions Cup is underway and tomorrow morning the Qualcomm Stadium will play host to Roma v Spurs.

The sixth edition of the friendly competition has already seen some of Europe’s heavyweights clash in the United States, including PSG, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

Roma v Spurs will add to that star-studded line-up and offer fans across the Atlantic the chance to experience the intensity of European football, and here is all you need to know about the match.

Where can I watch Roma v Spurs?

Roma v Spurs takes place in San Diego at the Qualcomm Stadium on July 26; the match will kick-off at 03:05 GMT and will be available to UK viewers.

How to watch the pre-season friendly

The game will be available live only to Premier Sports subscribers, channel 412 for Sky customers, and channel 551 for Virgin Media users. Roma v Spurs live stream options can also be found on Premier Sports.

Team news and what new signings can we expect to see?

Roma have been extremely busy this transfer window, signing no fewer than 13 players, and the Qualcomm Stadium could see a number of the Giallorossi’s new recruits on display.

Justin Kluivert, son of Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert, moved to the Italian capital this summer from boyhood-club Ajax and he could get some minutes under his belt tomorrow morning, while Javier Pastore joined from PSG and has already featured in both of Roma’s pre-season friendlies.

Elsewhere the Giallorossi have acquired the services of two goalkeepers following the departure of Alisson to Liverpool for a world-record fee for a ‘keeper at £67m. Veteran shot-stopper Antonio Mirante was signed from Bologna, while Robin Olsen was signed on Tuesday from Copenhagen.

For Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino has been far less active in the transfer market as the north London club are yet to sign a player. And with a number of notable absentees, the Argentine tactician will likely name a more youthful line-up.

Spurs have a total of nine first-team players missing, with Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris all set to miss out as they recover from the World Cup.

Roma v Spurs: head-to-head records and pre-match stats

Roma v Spurs is a rarity in football as both sides have never met in a competitive fixture, and have only met twice in the past. The last meeting came in last year’s International Champions Cup, with Roma winning 3-2 on the day.

The match took place at the Red Bull Arena, as goals from Diego Perotti, Cengiz Under and Marco Tumminello were enough to win the fixture for Eusebio Di Francesco’s men.

The only other match took place in 2008, when Spurs put Roma to the sword with a 5-0 victory at White Hart Lane. Darren Bent and David Bentley both scored braces a decade ago while Luka Modric made his home debut.

This will be Spurs’ first pre-season fixture of the season, as Pochettino prepares his side for the forthcoming campaign looking to progress further than the Round of 16 in the Champions League and win his first piece of silverware as manager of the club.

Meanwhile, Roma have already enjoyed two pre-season fixtures, a thumping 9-0 victory over Latina on July 14, with Patrik Schick netting a hat-trick, while the club could only muster a 1-1 draw with Avellino last week.

Eusebio Di Francesco’s men will be looking to put the frustrations from the Malcom deal behind them when they take to the Qualcomm Stadium tomorrow morning – sporting director Monchi was forced to apologise to fans after the deal collapsed and the Brazilian signed for Barcelona.

Despite this, the Stadio Olimpico side will be looking to go one better in the Champions League this season by reaching the final, while also putting up a better title challenge after finishing third in Serie A.
