Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Iranian winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh for a club-record £17m fee from AZ Alkmaar.
Jahanbakhsh, 24, has put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract at the Amex Stadium, keeping him at the club until June 2023, and he becomes the club’s eighth major signing in an exceptionally busy window for the Seagulls.
The Iranian winger scored 21 goals for AZ Alkmaar last term, making him the highest goalscorer in the Eredivisie, and he flew into Biggin Hill airport last night to undergo his medical today.
Manager Chris Hughton has been keen to add significant firepower to his side for the forthcoming campaign, and he spoke of his delight in capturing the prolific midfielder.
“We are delighted to welcome Alireza to the club, and we are particularly pleased to get this deal over the line,” he told the club’s official website.
“Ali is a player that we have been aware of and monitored for a few years, and his versatility will increase our attacking options within the squad.
“He can play in a wide position or central midfield attacking role, and I am now very much looking forward to working with him.”
