Lucas Torreira’s Arsenal move all-but confirmed as father reveals plan to help him settle in north London

The father of Lucas Torriera has lifted the lid on his son’s imminent move from Sampdoria to Arsenal this summer as he reveals plans to help the midfielder adjust to life in north London.

Torriera, 22, is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Arsenal this summer, with a fee in the region of £26m agreed in principle between the two clubs.

The tenacious tackler is currently on duty in Russia with his homeland Uruguay and has been one of the standout performers during this summer’s World Cup, as La Celeste prepare for a quarter-final clash against France on Friday.

He is expected to finalise the deal and put pen-to-paper once proceedings in Russia conclude, and his father is already preparing for life in England’s capital.

Ricardo Torreira told Uruguayan television channel Teledoce that despite some South American players faltering and failing to acclimatise to football in England’s top-tier, he will be doing his very best to ensure his son thrives on English soil.

“There will be people that will accompany him,” said Ricardo (as translated by @ArsenicTM). “He won’t be alone. It’s a big change [going to England] and we don’t want to think about it yet because we’re scared.

“The truth is it’s tough to manage the language, adapt to the [London] society and customs and at the same time not lose ours.

“But there’s a whole program getting readied for Lucas.”

Should the transfer go through as planned, then Torriera will be the fourth signing of the Unai Emery era, as the club look to inject fresh impetus in the terraces following recent years of stagnation under Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners have so far bolstered their defensive line with the signings of Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund and Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Juventus.

Goalkeeper Bernd Leno has also arrived at the Emirates after ending his seven-year association with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
