Manchester City have announced the signing of teenage midfielder Claudio Gomes from French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Gomes, 18, has switched the Parc des Princes for the Etihad Stadium after making five appearances for the capital club’s U-23 side in the UEFA Youth League last term.
The defensive midfielder has been snapped up on a free transfer by the Citizens after his contract expired in Paris at the end of June, but he had to wait until his 18th birthday on Monday before the deal could be finalised.
Gomes has represented his homeland at various youth levels, and is currently the captain of the France U-18 side, mixing his brilliant tackling ability with intelligent vision and great energy.
He has been training with the Manchester City first-team squad during the club’s tour of the United States, but the club had been biding their time to finalise the transfer to circumvent being penalised for signing a player under 18.
