Eden Hazard: Olivier Giroud may be the best target man in the world

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has heaped praise on teammate Olivier Giroud after the striker helped him score a hat-trick against Cardiff City.

The Blues came from a goal down at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to beat newly-promoted Cardiff 4-1 courtesy of three from Hazard, and a late finish from Willian.

Despite scoring the decisive goals and putting in a man-of-the-match performance, Hazard refused to take all the praise, instead lauding the target-man exploits of Giroud.

The Frenchman provided two assists for Hazard during the rout against Cardiff, while also demonstrating his acute hold-up play, and target-man qualities.

When asked about the influence of his teammate by BBC’s Match of the Day, Hazard said: “He’s a target man, maybe the best in the world. When he gets the ball he can hold it up really well.

“Its a real pleasure to play alongside him. With Alvaro [Morata] its completely different because he has a different style to Olivier [Giroud]. But both are quality and we are happy to have good strikers at the club.”

Chelsea fans will be delighted to see Hazard still donning the blue colours of the club after much speculation linking the Belgian with a move to Real Madrid over the summer.

Hazard has now scored five goals in five league matches this season, while also providing two assists, and he became only the fourth player to score more than one hat-trick for Chelsea in the Premier League, alongside Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Chelsea have enjoyed a perfect start to life under Maurizio Sarri, winning their opening five league matches, and are currently atop of the table.

They next face an away trip to PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday.
