Initials, squad number, family members – these are just some of the things that a normal footballer would have on their personalised boots.
However, England and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is no ordinary footballer.
For England’s upcoming games against Spain and Switzerland, Pickford will be donning a pair of Nike boots with the words ‘GET THE RAVE ON’ across the side.
We all know that those from the north-east love a good party but, even so, this seems like an odd thing to do, doesn’t it?
However, it all stems back from a tweet on Pickford’s official Twitter account nearly five years ago – before he had made his Sunderland debut – that read: “Game day lets get the rave on #inthemood #3points #stretch”
‘Game day’ was obviously referring to Burton Albion, where he was on loan at the time, having a game that day.
But, more pressingly, ‘get the rave on’ is a reference to his favourite MC, MC Tazo, and since then, the two have had a number of exchanges over social media.

And when the lights went out at Sunderland’s game against Hull City in 2016, Pickford even got the Black Cats’ faithful involved (see the video below for Pickford’s post-match reaction).
