Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah was celebrating – not acting out in frustration – when he threw a bottle down following Roberto Firmino‘s injury-time winner against Paris Saint-Germain, according to Rio Ferdinand.
Salah was substituted after giving the ball away in the build-up to PSG’s second goal, which almost earned the French side an unlikely draw after trailing 2-0 in Tuesday’s Champions League opener.
Substitute Firmino bagged the winning goal at the death to hand Liverpool all three points, but not everyone seemed completely delighted as the ball hit the net.
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted Salah throwing a water bottle down on the bench, a seemingly strange act that some saw as evidence of unhappiness on the Egyptian’s part.
But Ferdinand, who was on punditry duty for BT Sport on the night, noticed Salah’s arms in the air before the bottle was thrown, suggesting he had in fact been celebrating the goal.
“I think you have to [look at] the way this team is, the bond they have out there on the pitch,” Ferdinand said (via Metro).
They've done it!

“I think Salah’s celebrating in his own way. His hands were up at the beginning of that. The first picture [shows] his hands were up [celebrating].”
Salah, who scored 44 goals across all competitions during his debut season at Liverpool, has found the net just twice in his opening six appearances of the season and has looked slightly rusty so far this term.
He will be hoping to increase those figures when the Reds welcome Southampton to Anfield in the Premier League this weekend.
