Germany great Mesut Ozil will not reverse his decision – Low

Germany manager Joachim Low has insisted Mesut Ozil will not reverse his decision to retire from international duty.

Ozil announced his retirement from the Die Mannschaft following the Fifa World Cup in Russia after releasing a detailed statement citing the breakdown of his relationship between himself and the German Football Association (DFB).

The Arsenal playmaker accused various members of the DFB of racism before revealing that his intention was to stop playing for his country.

Germany manager Low has revealed that although he has tried to communicate with Ozil, he has no plans to attempt to involve the 29-year-old in his future squads and believes the player has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be considered.

Speaking to reporters (via Sky Sports) Low said: “I think everything has been said about this. When a player announces his resignation like that, you don’t pick him for the squad eight or nine weeks later.

“Players who have resigned will not have a role to play in future. He’s said he doesn’t want to play, he told us his thoughts, I don’t know why we should keep talking about it.

“He was part of the team for a long time but not anymore, for this team it’s over and he’s not part of our thoughts anymore.

“Mesut and I enjoyed a lot of success together over the years. I have tried several times to reach him on the phone, without any luck, and I will continue to try and make contact with him in the future.”

Following their extremely poor World Cup campaign in Russia, Germany face world champions France in the Uefa Nations League on Thursday as they try to recover from a testing summer’s work.
