“Like meeting a friend” – Klopp picks out one PSG star ahead of Liverpool clash

Jurgen Klopp has said that he is ‘looking forward’ to watching PSG before their Champions League tie with his Liverpool side and that his Brazilian stars are relishing the chance to face their compatriot, Neymar.

Liverpool were drawn alongside PSG, as well as Napoli and Red Star Belgrade, in yesterday’s Champions League group stage draw.

And, with Neymar lining up for the Parisians, Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his Brazilian trio of Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho are looking forward to facing the ex-Barcelona man.

He said (via AS): “I am looking forward to watching PSG a bit more often, which is a very interesting project for sure over in France with Thomas Tuchel.

“Facing Neymar will be, for our Brazilian guys, like meeting a friend again and all that stuff. It’s a big challenge, but for all the others it is a big challenge to face us.”

Klopp was also keen to stress that he will not be allowing his side to underestimate Napoli, following his side’s 5-0 pre-season thrashing of the Partenopei, adding: “Napoli, we beat them in pre-season but it goes without saying these two games will be completely a different challenge. I’ve been to Napoli with Dortmund, so I know what the atmosphere is like there.”

Will Buffon and Verratti be suspended for Liverpool v PSG?

Liverpool open their Champions League group campaign at home to PSG on the 18th of September, and the fixture could not come at a better time for the Reds.

Despite the daunting prospect of facing the deadly attacking trio of Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Neymar, the Anfield side will be boosted by the news that Italian duo Gianluigi Buffon and Marco Verratti will both be suspended for the game.

Verratti is serving a one-game suspension in the Champions League after being sent off for picking up two yellow cards against Real Madrid as PSG exited last year’s competition, while Buffon will serve a three-match ban after he was sent off for verbally abusing referee Michael Oliver when the Englishman awarded a late penalty for Madrid against Juventus in what turned out to be his final European appearance for the Old Lady.
