Nottingham Forest sign Greek international Panagiotis Tachtsidis on a free transfer

Nottingham Forest have signed Greek international midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis on a free transfer.

Tachtsidis had most recently played for Olympiacos, a club also owned by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, and made three Champions League appearances for the Greek side last season.

However, the 25-time Greek international was deemed surplus to requirements and released as a free agent on Friday.

Forest have become the 11th club of the 27-year-old’s nomadic career, which began with AEK Athens and has yielded 232 professional appearances to date.

The ex-Roma midfielder has signed a two-year deal at the club, with a statement on Nottingham Forest’s official website reading: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that Greek international midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis has signed a deal with the club until the summer of 2020.

“The 27-year-old moves to The City Ground having left Olympiacos where he made 17 appearances last season, including three in the Champions League.

“Tachtsidis has spent the majority of his career in Italy, where he featured for Genoa, Roma, Torino and Cagliari among others and made close to 200 Serie A appearances.
“The 25-cap international was part of Greece’s squad at the 2014 World Cup and has penned a deal with Aitor Karanka’s side until the summer of 2020.”

Tachtsidis has become Forest’s 15th signing since the end of last season, although that doesn’t seem to have helped their results, with the 1979 and 1980 European champions winning just one of their opening six Championship games, currently sitting 14th in the table.
Forest’s next outing is away to seventh-placed Swansea City after the international break.
