Pep Guardiola denies claims of fall-out with Man City winger Leroy Sane

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has denied claims he has fallen out with winger Leroy Sane, following his latest snub.

Sane, 22, was left out of City’s matchday squad for their 2-1 win over Newcastle United and has played just 30 minutes in the Premier League so far this season.

In the build-up to the game on Saturday evening, reports surfaced claiming Guardiola was concerned with Sane’s lack of focus in training which served as a potential reason for his omission.

But Guardiola has insisted Sane’s absence was purely tactical, with the Spaniard also trying to deal with a big squad.

“Last game Phil Foden was not in the squad,” he told reporters after the game, according to Sky Sports.

“I was so sad with Phil as I am with Leroy now.

“We have six strikers and I decided to play with two strikers, we have two wingers plus another one on the bench.

“That’s why we decided this game he wouldn’t be there. In the next games, he will be ready to play.

“He played 10 minutes [against Wolves], he tried. He was not precise but he tried.

“They convince me, I am satisfied from the moment they run. Mistakes without the ball, taking decisions is part of the process.”

When asked if he was happy with Sane’s attitude, Guardiola replied: “Yes.”

Sane’s slow start to the season comes after he was snubbed by Germany manager Joachim Low for the World Cup in Russia, despite his good campaign with City last season.

However, the winger has been recalled to Die Mannschaft for their matches against France and Peru.

Sane’s fine season en route to the Premier League title

Despite City’s summer signings, Sane’s lack of playing this season is even more confusing considering his performances last term.

The German played 32 times in the Premier League last season, scoring 10 and recording 15 assists – the highest in the league alongside teammate Kevin De Bruyne.

Sane’s 15 assists came from 58 chances created, at an average of 2.16 per 90 minutes, the third-best record of any City player to play more than 1,000 Premier League minutes last season.
