Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has advised Paris Saint-Germain to hire a new sporting director after their failed attempt to sign Jerome Boateng.
The French champions, led by sporting director Antero Henrique, tried to lure the German international to the capital this summer.
Bayern president Hoeness was scathing in his criticism of the way in which Henrique went about the negotiations for the centre-back and advised the French giants to look to replace the sporting director.
PSG tried to sign Boateng while also reportedly being interested in signing Renato Sanchez but neither deal got over the line before the transfer deadline closed leaving a sour taste in the mouth of Hoeness leading him to state the French club’s sporting director is not the kind of figurehead they need.
“I would advise PSG to replace their sporting director. The man is not a great figurehead for the club,” Hoeness told Kicker as reported via Goal.
“PSG cannot afford to have such a sporting director if they want to be one the best clubs in the world.”
“We asked for this fee [€50 million] because we do not want to hand over Jerome and assumed that Paris would not pay that amount. We also wanted to do our coach a favour because he wanted to keep the player.”
Hoeness was not the only official at Bayern to be less than impressed with the actions of Henrique as the German side’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic also weighed in with his own criticism.
“I do not want to insult anybody. But I will tell you: You can’t do things like that to Bayern Munich Especially when it is about that kind of player,” Salihamidzic told Sky following Bayern’s 3-0 win over Stuttgart on Saturday.
“If a transfer shall happen, many things must fit. We must want it, the player must want it and the other club should show interest in that player. And we never felt that in any moment.
“Even Jerome confirmed to me, that the tactics of the other side were strange.”
Bayern Munich, under new manager Niko Kovac, have started the Bundesliga campaign with two wins and face Bayer Leverkusen next after the international break as they look to defend yet another title.
