PSG’s Champions League group game vs Napoli will be “complicated” – Thomas Tuchel

Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted their Champions League group game against Napoli will be ‘complicated’.

The French champions were placed in Group C alongside last season’s Serie A runners-up, Napoli, as well as 2018 Champions League beaten finalists Liverpool, and Serbian SuperLiga winners Red Star Belgrade in the draw on Friday.

It is an admittedly tough group, but Tuchel has picked out Napoli as PSG’s most testing opponents, with tactical preparation a particular concern for the German coach.

He told reporters (via Football Italia): “The Champions League group is very difficult.

“It’s always complicated to face an Italian team, Napoli in our case because they are tactically prepared.”

“Ancelotti is an inspiration”

The first meeting between PSG and Napoli will take place on October 24 in Paris.

Tuchel is particularly looking forward to taking on the ‘inspirational’ Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti, who has won this competition twice as a player and three times as a manager.

Tuchel said: “Ancelotti is a great source of inspiration for me. He’s a great coach.”

PSG go into the international break top of Ligue 1, with a 100 per cent start to the new season, while Napoli lost for the first time this term, a shock 3-0 defeat to Sampdoria.

The French champions next face St Etienne in Ligue 1 before opening their Champions League campaign against Liverpool on September 18.
