Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is confident that Virgil Van Dijk‘s injury is nothing to get too worried about after the defender had to be taken on in the win over Southampton.
The Reds eased past Southampton 3-0 on Saturday afternoon and headed to the top of the league after completing their seventh win in seven games across all competitions this season.
Liverpool had pretty much won the game before the break after scoring three times. The Merseyside outfit coasted to victory in the second half, but their triumph at home was not without its setbacks, as van Dijk limped off the pitch in the middle of the second half.
The Netherlands captain sustained a knock to an already-bruised rib and was replaced by Joe Gomez. However, Klopp did not appear to be too concerned about the injury in a post game interview with reporters.
“He already had a bruise in the ribs before the PSG game, which is very uncomfortable and today he got another hit there,” Klopp said.
“It’s not cool but should not be too serious. It should be absolutely OK, hopefully. I didn’t hear anything different.”
Liverpool’s winning streak will face its biggest endurance test over the coming weeks, as they take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, the Blues again in the league, followed by a trip to Naples in the Champions League, topped off with a crucial home clash against Manchester City in the league.
