AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has praised Patrick CutronePatrick Cutrone following the club’s dramatic 2-1 victory over AS Roma, claiming he “has the venom inside of him.”
Cutrone scored a late, 95th-minute winner as the Rossoneri overcame AS Roma in a 2-1 win at the San Siro on Friday night.
The result will be a big boost to the confidence of Gattuso’s side, given that they threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 away at Napoli last weekend.
Gattuso was quick to praise his match-winner, who has now bagged 19 goals in 49 games for the Milan senior side since making his debut in 2017, and played down suggestions that this win is a ‘turning point’ for his team.
Gattuso told reporters: “Patrick in this moment has the venom inside of him.
“We are at the second round of games and we’re already talking about a turning point.
“There was great regret after the Napoli game but we didn’t throw everything away, I knew it.
“We have strengthened but I can’t talk about a turning point after the second game.”
Gattuso, who was a famously aggressive midfielder in his playing days, was also generous in his praise for his side’s mental fortitude in difficult circumstances.
He added: “We worked on our mentality and on knowing how to suffer.
“We can’t think that we can control the game for 90 minutes. Sometimes you need to play with a knife between your teeth.”
Chasing their second win of the season, AC Milan’s next game is an away trip to Cagliari after the international break.
