Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has admitted he held talks with PSG manager Thomas Tuchel over the transfer window but has confirmed that his future now lies with the Bavarians.
The 2014 World Cup winner has been the subject of much transfer speculation over the summer, following a long-standing disagreement with Bayern’s president Karl-Heinz Rumminigge, but is keen to reaffirm his allegiance to Bayern after holding talks with PSG over the summer.
He said, as reported by German outlet Welt: “There were talks with Paris, that’s no secret.
“The task there was interesting, the talks with Thomas Tuchel were good. That does not mean that I’m not burning for Bayern anymore. I have big goals and will continue to do everything for the club. As I have always done.”
Meanwhile, Bayern manager Niko Kovac has been quick to praise the professionalism of Boateng, as well as that of teammate Robert Lewandowski, who also appeared to be unhappy the Allianz earlier in the summer.
Kovac said: “Jérôme is an absolute full professional.
“We had the subject with Lewy (Robert Lewandowski), He feels well, is happy. It’s the same with Jérôme. He will give everything, will sacrifice himself to achieve all goals with Bayern.
“Jérôme is a world-class defender. It’s about keeping him healthy.”
Niko Kovac’s start to life as Bayern Munich manager
New Bayern manager Niko Kovac has made a strong start to life at the club where made 51 appearances as a player between 2001 and 2003 – winning a Bundesliga and German Cup title in the process.
Following Die Roten’s 5-0 mauling of Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Super Cup, they made a strong start to the Bundesliga season, beating Hoffenheim 3-1 at home, as they look to make it seven domestic crowns in succession.
Next up is an away trip to Stuttgart, who lost their opening game away to Mainz, on Saturday evening.
