Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph has insisted he isn’t concerned by his lack of playing time for the club so far this season.
Delph – deployed as a make-shift left-back on regular occasions – was one of the surprise packages of an astonishing season for the Citizens last year, as they ran away with the Premier League title after finishing the season with exactly 100 points.
The Englishman adapted fantastically to his new role under City boss Pep Guardiola and consequently was included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad that did so well in Russia this summer at the World Cup.
So far this season, Delph is yet to make an appearance for the current league champions, who have won three out of their opening four matches at the start of the new campaign while also bagging the first piece of silverware of the season, beating Chelsea 2-0 in the FA Community Shield last month.
However, the former Leeds Unites and Aston Villa star is not worried about the lack of playing time and is just happy to be involved with a squad that inhabits the qualities of a winning side.
“I’m not concerned about it, it’s a very long season,” Delph said to the Manchester City website.
“At a club like Manchester City we’re soon going to be playing three games a week and not everyone can play three games a week.
“There will be rotation, there will be times I’m needed to play and times I’m needed to come off the bench.
“I definitely will play games, I’m 100 per cent certain I’ll get minutes on the pitch. It’s up to you once you get the opportunity.
“When I do it’s my time to shine and give what I can to the team. It’s a fantastic squad and I’m very privileged to be part of it.”
Delph’s lack of playing time with City did not prevent him from being called up for England’s squad to face Spain in the Uefa Nations League on Saturday.
