Guardiola: ‘Special’ Bernardo Silva will stay at Man City as long as I do

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on club playmaker Bernardo Silva

Silva joined the club last summer from AS Monaco for a transfer fee of £43.5 million and impressed during a highly successful City season which saw the club win both the Premier League – with a record 100 points total – and the Carabao Cup.

So far this season, Silva has played in all five matches in the Premier League – scoring one goal – and looks set to continue playing as a regular in the Manchester City starting XI.

City boss Guardiola has spoken about the effect Silva has on his side and how important the player is.

Speaking to reporters, Guardiola has revealed that he intends to keep the player at the club for as long as he stays in charge of the Manchester club.

“It’s almost impossible to be more pleased with him as a manager,” said Guardiola.

“That’s why he deserves to play all the minutes he’s playing.

“He played a lot last season, but not in the starting line-up, and I don’t forget his behaviour in front of his teammates last season.

“He was an example and that is why I said that I don’t know what will happen in the future but if I am here, this guy will stay here because he is special.”

Manchester City’s win over Fulham at the weekend kept them unbeaten in the Premier League, with four wins from five.

The Citizens’ next fixture is at home to Lyon this Wednesday in the Champions League.
