Leicester City captain Wes Morgan believes teammate Harry Maguire looks like he has been in the England set-up for years, calling him a “revelation”.
Maguire joined Leicester in 2017 and, after winning the joint-most aerial duels (41) the tournament, was one of the star performers for England this summer as Gareth Southgate’s side reached a first World Cup semi-final since 1990.
England and Maguire are due to play Switzerland at Leicester’s King Power Stadium on Tuesday evening, and Foxes’ captain Morgan has been full of praise for his defensive partner.
He said (via Sky Sports): “Ever since he’s come in, he’s been a revelation. I think he’s settled in so well, for me he’s just got better and better. The more his confidence has grown, he’s stepped into the England set-up and it looks like he’s been a part of that set-up for years.”
Morgan also admitted that there were a host of clubs chasing Maguire’s signature over the summer but that he is glad he remained at the 2015/16 Premier League champions.
He added: “The confidence he has on the ball, the way he starts attacks, he’s got a lot of attributes for a big central defender. He’s had a lot of attention on him over the summer, over possibly going to other teams but I’m glad he’s stayed here.
“His first season was last season and he had a fantastic season, he got the player of the year award and he rightly deserved that as well.
“I just want to see him progress, continue to improve and become the great player I know he’s going to become.”
Leicester have had a solid start to the season, winning two of their first four games, sandwiched between an away loss to Manchester United and a home defeat to Liverpool, going down 2-1 on both occasions.
Their next game is an away trip to Bournemouth, who are a point ahead of them in the Premier League table, on Saturday.
