I can make a significant contribution this season – Lallana

Adam Lallana believes he can make a “significant contribution” to Liverpool‘s cause this season.

The 30-year-old midfielder has endured a stop-start year and is currently recovering from a groin injury which saw him pull out of England’s recent international squad.

It hasn’t proved to be a serious injury and Lallana is expected to be available for the Reds this month; given their goals to challenge for the Premier League title and go far in the Champions League, the ex-Saint expects to play a role in achieving them.

“It’s a minor setback, which isn’t ideal, as I’ve been in great shape until now, but it’s positive news that it’s only a brief lay-off,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

“I’m pleased I’ll be back available for Liverpool, both domestically and in the Champions League during September, and then England again for the next break.

“I know I can make a significant contribution over the course of a long season and that’s where my focus will remain – with so much to play for.

“Doing my best and giving everything for my teammates, management and supporters of club and country is all that matters.”

Since joining from Southampton in 2014, the midfielder has featured 141 times for Liverpool scoring 21 goals and creating a further 20.

Lallana’s energy has been one of the cornerstones behind Liverpool’s intense pressing game under Jurgen Klopp, who became renowned for this style during his tenure managing Borussia Dortmund.

Such is his importance, Lallana’s present deal keeps him in Merseyside until June 2020 with an option for a further year, but recent months have seen him sidelined with various knocks. Lallana, from August 2017 onwards, has missed 32 games – across 160 days – due to injury.

Next up for the Premier League leaders, who have won all four of their games this season, is a trip to Wembley to face fellow challengers Spurs on September 15.
