“Icardi’s only contact with Juventus was the seven goals he scored against them”

Juventus and Napoli wanted to sign Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi this summer though neither made any contact, according to his wife and agent, Wanda Icardi.

Icardi, whose contract at Inter features a £100m release clause for foreign clubs which ends in 2021, ultimately stayed at the San Siro upon the summer transfer window’s close.

And it appears the marksman was also of some interest to Italian clubs, with both Juventus and Napoli interested, according to Wanda.

However, Juventus never made an actual bid, despite bringing Cristiano Ronaldo to the Allianz Stadium for a similar fee to that which would have prized Icardi from Inter.

“The only contact Mauro has had with Juventus is the seven goals he’s scored against them,” Wanda Icardi told Tiki Taka, via Football Italia.

“It’s obvious that there’ll be offers for a striker like Mauro, but his choice was clear from the start.

“Juventus looked at him, but CR7 [Cristiano Ronaldo] was their primary objective for the Champions League.

“I do my job, if other clubs call me then I answer, but the final decision is always Mauro’s.

“Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis? I met him, he’s a very good person. We talked about a bit of everything, from cinema to football.

“I think he made an offer to Inter, but Mauro made another decision.”

Icardi’s Inter have been drawn against Barcelona, Tottenham and PSV Eindhoven in Group B in the Champions League, and kick off their campaign against Spurs at home on September 18.

The Argentine striker is yet to score for Inter this season, despite netting 29 times last campaign, with the Nerazzurri achieving just one win from their opening three games.

Inter next take on Parma at home on September 15 in Serie A, after the international break.
