Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has criticised the German media’s reaction to their 2018 World Cup exit.
Die Mannschaft started off their campaign in Russia with a shock 1-0 defeat to Mexico, and, despite salvaging a late win against Sweden in their second game, were eliminated following a feeble display against South Korea.
This loss led to Germany crashing out of the World Cup at the group stages for the first time ever, but Klopp feels things should be kept in perspective.
He told journalists, as reported by Goal: “To deal with an early exit in the group stage of the World Cup, the way the media and the whole nation did, was crazy.
“The coach had to explain himself, he had to explain football to the whole nation.
“People have been trying this approach for 100 years and it doesn’t work. So, for me, it was too much.
“So, calm down, let them play football and I promise you, Germany will win games again.”
Joachim Low’s 12-year tenure at the helm of the national team was in danger of ending after the tournament, but calls for his dismissal are now less raucous than a few months ago.
This latest round of international fixtures has seen the beginning of the inaugural UEFA Nations League, with Germany opening their account with a goalless draw against world champions France on Thursday night.
Germany next face Peru in a friendly on Sunday, a game many will expect Die Mannschaft to come out of on top.
