Antonio Rudiger has apologised to Benjamin Pavard after leaving slash marks on his neck in the goalless UEFA Nations League meeting between Germany and France.
The incident occurred in the third minute as Pavard went to ground in order to prevent Rudiger from crossing, despite succeeding it left the French defender sporting stud scratches across his neck, with replays showing Rudiger dragged his studs as he attempted to hurdle Pavard.
Following the game Pavard refused to blame Rudiger feeling there was no malice from the Chelsea centre-back and Rudiger in an act of sportsmanship has issued an apology on social media towards the Stuttgart man.
“Sorry for @BenPavard28, it wasn’t intentional,” he wrote on his official Twitter account. “I have apologized to him right after it happened and I also want to use this opportunity to wish him a speedy recovery!”

Rudiger’s season
Rüdiger arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2017 on the back off a stellar reputation forged in Serie A with AS Roma, but his debut season was one filled with highs and lows.
He’d ultimately make no fewer than 27 league appearances under former boss Antonio Conte; since the arrival of Maurizio Sarri he’s gone on to play in every single minute of Chelsea’s league campaign to date.
