Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has lifted the lid on Philippe Senderos supposedly being paralysed by fear before facing ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.
The ex-Arsenal and Chelsea centre-back has claimed Senderos would struggle to remain calm when faced with the thought of having to contain the once-lethal Ivorian marksman.
Gallas insists the Arsenal dressing room prior to matches against the Blues would be anything but tranquil and that the Swiss would profusely sweat in the build-up to the London derby.
“I knew Philippe Senderos, before a match he would need to speak a lot, you could see that he was sweating, that he did not feel good,” he told Le Vestiaire.
“Especially against certain players. I saw him against Chelsea, against Didier Drogba, where he would genuinely panic, like he was going through his match before playing it.
“And unfortunately, when you saw him on the pitch, he lost his playing abilities, he didn’t play well. But against his own team-mates, he played better.”
Senderos, 33, now plies his trade in MLS with Houston Dynamo, but enjoyed seven years in north London, though he never truly cemented a starting berth under the guidance of Arsene Wenger.
During that time Drogba was a dominant force in the Premier League, winning three Premier League titles and scoring 157 goals during his first stint at the club while the two were both still at Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.
Drogba scored 13 goals in 15 games for Chelsea against Arsenal in all competitions, including two in a League Cup final in 2007.
The two clubs will next pit their wits against European opposition on Thursday in the Europa League, with Chelsea facing PAOK, while Arsenal host Ukrainian outfit Vorskla Poltava.
