How Jurgen Klopp reacted to Alisson’s error v Leicester

Jürgen Klopp says the whole Liverpool team must learn from Alisson’s blunder against Leicester City and praised his goalkeeper for his reaction to the error following the goal.

The Reds made it 12 points from a possible 12 with a 2-1 victory at The King Power Stadium on Saturday, but having led 2-0 at half-time, a mistake from the £68m goalkeeper gave the Foxes some hope of salvaging a result in the second half.

The goal came after Alisson was dispossessed in his own box while attempting a Cruyff turn under pressure from Kelechi Iheanacho, with Leicester winger Rachid Ghezzal tapping in to halve the deficit for the home side.

But Klopp believes there were other players at fault for the goal before Alisson’s mistake and says the whole team must learn from the incident.

“We all have to learn from it, not only himself,” the Reds boss told Sky Sports.

“It was clear last week that it would happen one day, I didn’t think it would be next week immediately, but we could have cleared the situation twice before, then we gave the ball back to him and yes, he could have shot it away as well.

“He knows it was his mistake of course, he’s man enough to get that. I told him it’s the best game to do it because we won it. It’s all fine now, now we’ve ticked that box as well – don’t play all the balls to Alisson.

“But how cool was he after that, when all the crowd tried to make him a bit nervous? That was then absolutely okay and we still used him.

“It was his goal (his fault), that’s how it is, but no problem with that.”

The perfect start for Liverpool

Klopp’s side eventually held on to make it four wins from four going into the international break, with first-half strikes from Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino proving to be decisive.

There’s no doubt Liverpool can improve on their recent performances, though, and Klopp will be keen to make sure that happens when his players return from international duty later this month.

The Reds face a challenging set of fixtures before the next break, where they will face the likes of Tottenham, PSG, Chelsea, Napoli and Manchester City.
