Chelsea midfielder Jorginho had agreed personal terms with Manchester City prior to joining the Blues, according to the player’s agent.
In what was one of the most talked-about transfers of the summer window, it had appeared Jorginho was on his way to the Etihad before the Italian midfielder’s ex-Napoli manager, Maurizio Sarri, moved to Stamford Bridge.
And now Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has revealed that a breakdown between Man City and Napoli prompted Jorginho to link up with Sarri once again.
He told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli (via Sky Sports): “It was all done with Jorginho.
“There was an agreement, but there was no agreement between the clubs. All parties have to agree, and one did not.
“Then Chelsea asked what the situation was after Sarri arrived and Jorginho went to London.”
He told Sky Sports in August: “We were close but in the end, Jorginho decided to stay with Sarri. I’ve said before that I want players who want to come here. He didn’t want that.
“We tried, we believed it was done but at the last turn he decided on Chelsea.”
Jorginho and Chelsea have enjoyed a perfect start to the new Premier League season, winning all four of their opening games, while Man City have won three and drawn one.
Jorginho the pass master
During his time at Napoli, Jorginho’s precision passing earned him the nickname of the ‘Pass Master’.
Since joining Chelsea, the 26-year-old has more than justified that mantra.
So far this season, Jorginho has completed more passes (384) and had more touches of the ball (465) than any other player in the Premier League, while his 92.09% pass accuracy is the second-highest of any Chelsea player to have made more than 100 passes – only Mateo Kovacic (93.53%) is higher.
Jorginho will have the chance to add to those impressive stats when Chelsea host Cardiff City after the international break on September 15.
