Sergio Ramos was surprised by the reception England supporters gave him during Spain’s recent Wembley visit.
The 32-year-old Real Madrid central defender was booed throughout La Roja’s narrow 2-1 victory at the home of football on Saturday.
Ramos, in the eyes of some, became public enemy number one after last season’s Champions League final – when many blamed him for Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s injury – but the Camas-born player feels he’s been unfairly vilified.
“You never expect such a bad welcome,” he told reporters.
“As I said before, the best thing about England supporters is the way they respect great players.
“It wasn’t like that today. I have a peaceful mind, calm as I have never meant to harm a colleague but maybe someone misunderstood it.”

Since turning pro, after coming through at boyhood club Sevilla in the middle of the last decade, the Andalusian has established himself as one of the best centre-backs around but also a divisive figure.
Ramos’ latest outing was his 157th appearance for his country since debuting against China in March 2005.
In the subsequent 13 years, he’s become an integral part of Spain’s rise; helping the Iberian nation to win two European Championships (2008 and 2012) as well as the 2010 World Cup.
At club level, Ramos is fast-becoming a Real Madrid legend.
To date he’s played no fewer than 568 matches for Los Blancos, whom he joined in 2004, registering 76 goals and 37 assists in the process. His trophy cabinet includes four European Cups and four La Liga crowns.
